…Not a strong suit of mine. Most people who know me well are used to the groans and swearing that ensues as I discover I skipped an early step in ANY process. I am better when it comes to building bookshelves, but… not much else.

My latest direction following disaster is not entirely my fault… not ENTIRELY.  I decided to bite the bullet and and create the website I have been talking about for… months. I have a friend with a FABULOUS SITE (Alice Gibson: www.alicegibson.net) so I tried to emulate (which sounds so much better than ”copy”) hers. In my inattention to detail, I failed to notice she had posted HOW she’d made said fabulous site…

Hence my journey into angst and despair compounded by the flu. I mean, honestly… why try to do something that impacts your entire professional career when you feel WELL?? That is just crazy talk… but I digress…

So I began with what I thought was a good idea at the time. I purchased my very own, shiny new domain name. But it was about the time that I clicked ”PURCHASE” that I realized I should probably go give Alice’s site one last glance… and lo and behold I discovered her link to ACTUAL DIRECTIONS!!!

It seems simple enough, follow step-by-step, skip no steps… yada yada yada. Right. It IS simple enough. It is actually a marvel of simplicity and accuracy. However, my first blunder soon manifested itself. I  had ALREADY registered the domain name, and now… I am awash in a sea of nameserver changes and 72 hour waits… all while wondering if it will even work the way I want it to when I am done waiting.

So here is my advice, to anyone interested in creating their very own, super fantabulous site: DON’T DO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU TALK TO SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE IT!!!

And last, but not least, this video by Cunutant (http://www.conutant.com/) is a great way to get started. If you can follow the directions…
